‘Tis the season for hilarity & fun! Sit back and enjoy as different holidays and cultures come together for a truly festive wintertime show. Join our actors as they whisk you away to a family’s holiday celebration party where all sorts of traditions take the stage. You’ll hear a range of songs holiday songs from “Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel” and “Auld Lang Syne” to “Away in a Manger,” “Sankta Lucia”, and so much more. This show is packed with music & celebrations that take place this time of year around the globe.

Running Time: 40-45 minutes, plus talkback!

Appropriate for: Grade 2 – Grade 5

Price: Title 1 Schools: $12/student, with 1 free chaperone ticket for every 10 students;

All others: $15/student, with 1 free chaperone ticket for every 10 students.

  • 1.3.12.A.1: Perform selected pieces of music and/or drama that demonstrate an understanding of cultural traditions and festive celebrations.
    (This applies to the performances of holiday songs like “Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel,” “Auld Lang Syne,” “Away in a Manger,” and “Sankta Lucia.”)

  • 1.3.12.B.1: Engage in performance critique, demonstrating knowledge of how elements of music and drama (such as staging, choreography, and music selection) contribute to a global holiday experience.
    (Your presentation will involve multiple cultural traditions and genres of music, and the students will reflect on how these elements contribute to the holiday spirit.)

Responding

These standards apply to how students will respond to the show, both intellectually and emotionally.

  • 1.4.12.A.1: Analyze and evaluate dramatic and musical performances using specific criteria, including acting, direction, music, and design choices.
    (After the show, students will reflect on how the songs and cultural traditions represented in the performance resonate with the themes of the holidays.)

  • 1.4.12.B.1: Critique a live performance based on artistic choices, such as the selection of songs and how they represent different cultures’ holiday traditions.
    (Students will evaluate how the show represents the diversity of holiday traditions and the cultural significance of the songs performed.)

  • 1.2.12.A.1: Analyze how historical context, cultural values, and aesthetic choices influence the artistic presentation of holiday traditions and celebrations.

    (The show ties historical cultural traditions to current ways of celebrating the holidays around the world.)
