CURRICULUM STANDARDS

New Jersey Visual and Performing Arts Standards (NJSLS-VPA)

Performing / Presenting / Producing

These standards focus on how you are presenting the live performance with dogs and dinosaurs.

  • 1.3.12.A.1: Perform selected scenes or acts that demonstrate an understanding of character development, theme, and emotion, with specific focus on the unique mix of dinosaurs and canine performances.

  • 1.3.12.B.1: Engage in performance critique, demonstrating knowledge of theatrical production elements such as staging, choreography, and costume choices, and their impact on the audience’s understanding of the show.

Responding

These standards focus on how students will engage with the performance, both intellectually and emotionally.

  • 1.4.12.A.1: Analyze and evaluate dramatic performances using specific criteria, such as acting, direction, design, and the integration of canines into the performance.
(Students will reflect on how the performance successfully integrates both dinosaur and dog-themed elements, assessing how these components impact the audience.)

  • 1.4.12.B.1: Critique a live performance, considering acting choices, directorial vision, and thematic representation.
(In this case, students will evaluate how the dogs’ athleticism and humorous elements work with the dinosaur theme to create a unique performance.)

Connecting

These standards help students connect the show to broader cultural and personal contexts.

  • 1.2.12.A.1: Analyze how the cultural values and artistic choices influence the production’s representation of dinosaurs and dogs in a comedic and educational way.
(This will help students connect how humor and entertainment are used to present a prehistoric theme combined with modern canine skills.)

  • 1.2.12.B.1: Connect themes of teamwork, athleticism, and humor as they are represented in the performance, especially considering how animals and humans collaborate in the show.
(The connection between the animals and their human trainers, as well as the lighthearted theme of dinosaurs and dogs, will offer cultural and entertainment-based learning opportunities.)
